Why do we have so many religions??

I believe religions create differences. It divides people. People follow it blindly as a rule written by someone in the past. World is changing and so should we. today we see many people of different regions going together hand in hands. I feel the concept of religion should be scrapped but an awareness of what is right and what is wrong should be created.
